The US Embassy in Dhaka has announced the launch of 2021 EducationUSA Academy Connects college preparatory program.
EducationUSA Academy Connects is the virtual program model of EducationUSA Academy, a campus-based college preparatory program for international students, a press released said on Tuesday.
The short-term program (three to six weeks) aims to prepare international high school students, age 15- to 17-year-old (some schools accept 15- to 18-year-old), who are well-positioned for future study in the United States.
Students must have intermediate or advanced English communication proficiencies to participate in the short-term academic enrichment program.
Each participating US college and university has its respective application deadline -- ranging from May 24 to July 5 -- for submitting applications.
The program facilitates the development of skills necessary for success as undergraduate students at US higher education institutions, in addition to English language training.
Participating students will gain knowledge about the US admission process as they build college-level academic skills.
They will also have opportunities to engage virtually with current international and American students as well as develop a better understanding of the strength and diversity of the US higher education system.
While participating, institutions will offer the same core college preparatory programming. They may also focus Academy curricula on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), business, English language study, standardized test preparation, and/or other related disciplines.
The program also includes customized virtual visits to colleges and universities in order for students to gain an understanding of the wide range of institutions available to them.
Host institutions of the EducationUSA Academy program determine its own program dates, cost, application process and deadline, and English language assessment process.
Students have to apply to the institution of their choice and pay program fees directly.
The program cost per student is set by each institution up to a maximum of $450, which includes virtual instruction and any required materials.
Students must have access to a computer and a stable internet connection. It is not recommended that students participate in the program via mobile phone.
International education prepares students for today's globalized economy and develops the relationships between people and communities in the United States and around the world that are necessary to solve global challenges.
The US Department of State's EducationUSA advising network includes more than 430 advising centers in over 175 countries and territories around the world that provide prospective international students with accurate, current, and comprehensive information about US higher education.
In Bangladesh, EducationUSA student advising services are offered from the American Center at the US Embassy in Dhaka, the Edward M Kennedy (EMK) Center located in the capital's Dhanmondi, the American Corners in Chittagong and Khulna, and via American Corners in Rajshahi and Sylhet.
