Scimago Ranking: BSMRAU, IUB among top Bangladesh universities

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU) and Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) have made it to the Scimago Rankings 2021 as being among the top Bangladeshi public and private universities. 

The Scimago Institutions Ranking includes governments, health, universities, companies and non-profit organizations into consideration to make a combined list. 

Further combining research, innovation and societal ranks, Scimago’s website shows that the health-based organization International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) stands at the top of the list among all Bangladeshi institutes.

There are 30 Bangladeshi institutes getting into the 2021 rankings published recently by Scimago – a Spain-based research organization – where 28 are universities. 

BSMRAU ranked 747th jointly, being the 4,535th institute in the world while IUB stood jointly in 797th position, being the 6,153rd global institute.

IUB made the 10th position jointly with Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) on the list of Bangladeshi universities. 

While Dhaka University ranked third, followed by Chittagong University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Khulna University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Jahangirnagar University and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) are in the ninth position. 

Scimago’s 2021 version of ranking enlisted 4,126 universities from all over the world. All organizations that have published at least 100 studies in the Scopus database were considered for this ranking in terms of research, innovation and societal impact. 

The Scimago Institutions Rankings has been publishing its international ranking of worldwide research institutions since 2009.

Last year, Tangail’s Mawlana Bhashani University of Science and Technology was top of the list and Dhaka University made the list in 2019.
