The Khelafat Majlis has demanded the release of the arrested leaders of Islamic political parties and Hefazat-e-Islam.
In a statement on Thursday, the party's Amir Mawlana Mohammed Ishaque and Secretary General Dr Ahmed Abdul Quader said the government had enforced a lockdown in the name of coronavirus to crack down on Alem-Ulama (Islamic scholars) across the country, reports Bangla Tribune.
In a statement, they said: "The government is arresting pious believers during Ramadan and remanding them in custody. The result of this oppression can never be good. Arrests after clamping curfew in the name of lockdown are not acceptable in any way.
