Maulana Abdul Awal, central nayeb-e-ameer of Hefazat-e-Islam and chief of its Narayanganj unit, has withdrawn his resignation from the party.
Hefazat-e-Islam Joint Secretary-General Mawlana Mamunul Haque confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
He said Awal’s decided to withdraw is resignation from the party following a two-and-a-half hour long meeting with other leaders of the party at the Central Railway Mosque at DIT commercial area in Narayanganj.
Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, a delegation team from Hefazat-e-Islam’s Ameer Junayed Babunagari met Maulana Abdul Awal at the Central Railway Mosque for discussion.
Hefazat’s General Secretary Jonayed Al Habib, Central Committee General Secretary Nasir Uddin Monir, Assistant General Secretary Fazlul Karim Kashemi, and other members of Narayanganj unit were present at the meeting.
Mamunul Hoque told the reporters that there had been some misunderstandings between the party leaders and the issue had been solved.
However, Mawlana Abdul Awal is yet to make any announcement in this regard.
Earlier on Tuesday, Mawlana Abdul Awal announced his resignation through a four minute long video on a Facebook group called “Shayakh Mawlana Abdul Awal Sahib Supporter.”
In the video, he was seen saying: “On the day of the protest RAB and police surrounded the mosque in such a way that they would shoot whenever we left the mosque.”
“If they went into action, we could not protect ourselves, we don't have any weapons. For that reason we remained confined to the mango tree area of the DIT mosque. It was later heard that 17 vehicles were burnt on Chittagong Road; the video footage shows who were responsible. Some terrorists have burned the vehicles. Our students were not there,” he added.
Several buses and trucks were set ablaze at several spots on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway during the strike called by Hefazat on Sunday.
At least 50 people were injured in clashes with police where journalists were assaulted.
The 3km road from Signboard intersection to Kanchpur was blocked for almost the whole day.
