The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a directive cautioning city dwellers to travel to their respective destinations and to participate in programs a little earlier than the scheduled times because some roads will be closed for a certain period of time for the VVIP movement and the arrival of foreign dignitaries.

DMP directive for March 17-26

This is for the 10-day celebration from March 17 to March 26 on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence where foreign heads of state as well as invited guests will join programs organized for the occasion.

Maldives President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih will leave Dhaka in the morning of March 19. So the road from Hotel InterContinental to Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) will be closed for a while.

Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is set to arrive on March 19 at 7:15pm, Nepal President Bidya Devi Bhandari on March 22 at 11:30am, and Bhutan President Lotay Tshering will be travelling on March 24 beginning from 2:05pm.

People using the road from the airport to Hotel InterContinental during these times need to schedule ahead.

Additionally, streets in Dhaka will be busy on March 19, 22, 24, and 26 to ensure swift transport of VVIP guests and others to attend the celebration program at National Parade Ground.

Road traffic is predicted to be strained during the upcoming celebrations. In order to stay ahead of traffic, refer to the official schedule for the arrival of the esteemed guests, as follows:
