The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Foreign Affairs Ministry has recommended strengthening trade relations with Spain and encouraging Bangladesh-Spain tourism.
The parliamentary watchdog came up with the recommendation at its 19th meeting held at Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday with committee chairman Muhammad Faruk Khan in the chair, an official release said.
Committee members – Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, Nurul Islam Nahid, Golam Faruk Khandakar Prince, Md Abdul Majid Khan, Nahim Razzaque and Kazi Nabil Ahmed took part in the meeting.
During the meeting, the participants discussed detailed work plans of the newly appointed Bangladesh ambassadors to Brazil and Spain.
They suggested enhancing Bangladesh-Brazil trade ties further and taking steps to arrange a trade fair within the next a year through the Export Promotion Bureau aiming to increase the country’s export earnings.
The parliamentary body also suggested taking initiatives to open a new door of cultural relations with Spain.
It stressed the need for taking pilot projects to cultivate crops on fallow lands in one or two countries through contact farming under the leadership envoys.
Secretaries concerned and senior officials of the foreign ministry and JS Secretariat were present.
