3 suspected Hijbut Tahrir men arrested

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three members reportedly of the banned outfit, Hijbut Tahrir, from Dhaka’s Sutrapur area on Thursday night, police informed Saturday.

The arrestees were identified as Atikur Rahaman, Maksudur Rahaman, and SM Shojib.

Police personnel recovered five books written by Syed Abul A’la Maududi, a monthly report consisting of 11 pages, an annual report of 2019-2020 session consisting of 24 pages, a spiral binding book of 45 pages, and a notepad from their possession.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sutrapur police station Muhammad Mamunur Rahaman on Saturday confirmed the news and said they were arrested during an operation conducted in the DIT Market area of Sutrapur thana at around 08:45 pm on Thursday.

He said the arrestees were supporters of outlawed Hijbut Tahrir and they had been carrying out anti-state conspiracies for a long time.

A case has been filed with the Sutrapur Police Station in this connection, the OC further added.

Earlier, the Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested three suspected members of banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami Bangladesh (Huji-B) from Dhaka’s Sayedabad area on Thursday.
