Eminent journalist Shaheen Reza Noor passes away

Shaheen Reza Noor, former news and executive editor of The Daily Ittefaq, permanent member of the National Press Club and son of martyred journalist Sirajuddin Hossain, has passed away.

He died at a hospital in Canada's Vancouver at 10:40am Bangladesh time on Saturday. He was 66 years old at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and numerous relatives, friends, colleagues and admirers.

He was born in September 1954 in Sharshuna village of Shalikha in Magura district. 

In his journalism career, he has drawn the attention of readers by writing reports on many international issues, including the Iraq War, the Afghan War, the overthrow of Indira Gandhi, and the execution of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. 

He has also written extensively on national politics, social, cultural and sports issues. He also served as the president of Projonmo-71.

President M Abdul Hamid also expressed profound shock at the death of Shaheen Reza Noor. In a condolence message, the head of the state prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at his death.

In a message of condolence, the premier said: “His contribution to implementing the spirit of the Liberation War and to the mass movement demanding trial of the war criminals will be remembered with due honour.”

National Press Club President Farida Yasmin and General Secretary Ilias Khan in a statement expressed deep grief over the death of Shaheen Reza Noor. The leaders expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
