The arrested was identified as Md Jewel Ahmad, member of banned Islamist outfit Hizb-ut-Tahrir and a resident of Bianibazar upazila. He is a resident of Sridhara village, Bianibazar, of the district.
ASP, media officer of RAB 9 Ziaul Haque, told the Dhaka Tribune that a team of RAB conducted drives at separate places in the city and arrested four people, including Jewel, in the early hours of that for his alleged involvement with militancy.
Ziaul Haque said involvement of three others were not found during interrogation. They will be released soon, he added.
On July 18, the law enforcers earlier arrested Iffat Ahmed Chowdhury, a fourth year student of Industrial and Production Engineering Department (IPE) of the university and son of Khaled Chowdhury of Nijkura village of Osmaninagar upazila of the district on August 2 and Abdul Aziz, a 4th year student of the same department o suspecting their involvement in militancy.
