Bangladeshi team Buet Zenith has been crowned the winner in the honourable mention category of the Nasa Space Apps Challenge 2020.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) of the US recently named a list of champions out of 3,600 projects from 150 countries in the world, according to a media statement. The names of all the winners are available on the Nasa website.
For the sixth time in a row, Bangladesh participated in the space apps challenge under the supervision of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS). The country submitted a total of 17 projects to Nasa in the competition.
Syed Almas Kabir, president of BASIS, said the Buet Zenith team of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) has once again made Bangladesh famous in this year’s competition, just like in 2018.
Didarul Alam, director of BASIS and convener of the Nasa Space Apps Challenge 2020, said: “It is a matter of great pride for our country. This is proof that our country is moving forward.”
Ariful Hasan Apu, advisor for the Nasa Spaces App Challenge, said: "The Nasa Space Apps Challenge 2020 is a great achievement for us. We believe and hope that this trend of success will continue and we will be world champions again."
Member of Buet Zenith Mehrab Haque said they were working to increase satellite connectivity to humans through social platforms by using data from Nasa.
The main task of their project was to collect information about where a satellite is in space and make it easily available to people, he added.
The other members of Buet Zenith are Fabia Tasnim, Tamimul Ihsan, Rabib Karim, Zahidul Islam, and Hasan Masum.
