Boy abducted to Bangladesh from Meghalaya yet to return home

An 18-year old petty mine worker from South West Khasi Hills district of the Northeastern Indian state of Meghalaya was abducted reportedly by around seven suspected Bangladeshi nationals on April 27, 2017. Though rescued by Bangladeshi law enforcement on May 15, various formalities have impeded the boy’s path to return to his parents in Meghalaya,  said sources from the Indian district’s police. The abducted Dajied Kynshai Syiemlieh’s father, Rijoising Basaiawmoit has knocked on the doors of the state secretariat and sought the intervention of Meghalaya Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh. Basaiawmoit said that his son’s matter was brought to every agency concerned, but the process was delayed due to Ramadan and Eid in Bangladesh. He also said that his son is in the custody of Bangladesh’s Indian Embassy and is healthy. Sherpur police have arrested three people in connection with the teenager’s abduction. Meanwhile, South West Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Herbert Lyngdoh said that the abducted boy’s statement was recorded by Bangladeshi police and the Indian Embassy has written to Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Ministry to provide an exit visa to the boy, so that he may return to his family in India. “We are continuously in touch with all the authorities concerned to ensure his return home as soon as possible,” said Lyngdoh.
