Awami League on Saturday announced the names of 64 mayoral candidates for the 3rd phase municipal elections scheduled to be held on January 30.
The announcement came after a meeting of Bangladesh Awami League’s Local Government Representative Nomination Board, held at Ganabhaban with Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
The ruling party declared its nominated mayoral candidates for four municipalities in Rangpur Division, 12 in Rajshahi Division, nine in Khulna Division, eight in Barisal Division, 12 in Dhaka Division, eight in Mymensingh Division, three in Sylhet Division and eight in Chittagong Division, according to a media release.
The third phase elections to 64 municipalities of different districts will be held on January 30 as per the schedule announced by the Election Commission.
The deadline for the submission of nomination papers is December 31, while the date for scrutiny of nomination papers is January 3 and the last date for the withdrawal of candidacy is January 10.

The 64 municipalities include Ulipur in Kurigram district, Jaldhaka in Nilphamari, Gobindaganj in Gaibandha, Hakimpur in Dinajpur, Rohanpur in Chapainawabganj, Mundumala and Keshorhat in Rajshahi, Shibganj, Nondigram, Dhunot, Gabtali and Kahalu in Bogra, Naogaon and Dhamoirhat in Naogaon, and Singra in Natore.
The municipalities also include Darshana in Chuadanga, Kotchadpur and Harinakundu in Jhenaidah, Manirampur in Jessore, Paikgasa in Khulna, Morrelganj in Bagerhat, Kalaroa in Satkhira, Barguna and Pathorghata in Barguna, Borhanuddin and Doulatkhan in Bhola, Nalchity in Jhalakathi, Swarupkathi in Pirojpur, Gournadi and Mehendiganj in Barisal.
The other municipalities include Naria, Bhedarganj and Zajira in Shariatpur, Tungipara in Gopalganj, Kalia and Narail in Narail, Pangsa in Rajbari, Munshiganj, Madhupur, Tangail, Bhuapur, Sakhipur and Mirzapur in Tangail, Iswarganj, Bhaluka, Gouripur and Trishal in Mymensingh, Nokla and Nalitabari in Sherpur, Sarishabari in Jamalpur, Durgapur in Netrokona and Katiadi in Kishoreganj.
The rest municipalities are Golapganj and Jakiganj in Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Hajiganj in Chandpur, Barua, Chauddagram and Laksam in Comilla, Feni, Hatia and Chowmuhani in Noakhali, and Ramganj in Lakshmipur.
The Election Commission earlier announced the schedules for the first and second phases of the municipality elections to 25 municipalities on December 28 and 61 municipalities on January 16.
