Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate direct flights on the Sylhet-London route to ease the air travel of Sylhet residents and London expatriates.
A press briefing has been scheduled at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on October 4 at 9am in this regard, the airlines said in a press release on Friday.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen will be present at the ceremony as chief guest while State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md Mahbub Ali will preside over the function.
Besides, Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed, Chairman of Biman Board of Directors Sajjadul Hasan, and Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Air Vice Marshal M Mofidur Rahman will be present as special guests.
A large number of inbound and outbound passengers and expatriates from different countries will travel using the airlines, read the release.
On September 16, a virtual meeting was held between CAAB and UK’s Department for Transport (DfT) to finalize the direct flights on the Sylhet-London-Sylhet route.
In the meeting, CAAB proposed to DfT about resumption of direct flights on the Sylhet-London route while appraising the UK team regarding the steps, and preparations taken by the Bangladeshi aviation authority to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Following the meeting, Biman received permission from the DfT and CAAB to operate direct flights from Sylhet to London.
