A public hearing concerning the issues of passengers' suffering and improving service quality at the Dhaka airport has been held with the participation of only two passengers.
Organized by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) along with the authorities of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, the hearing was held at the airport on Tuesday afternoon amid such a poor show of passengers though the organizers made claims about having enough publicity to hold the program.
When asked about the low turnout of passengers in the hearing, CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshall M Mafidur Rahman said less number of flights caused the thin presence of passengers.
He, however, claimed they had ensured enough publicity to reach passengers so that they could join the hearing.
The pandemic situation was also one of the causes of the shortage of participants, he said.
The CAAB chief said they would collect responses from the passengers through the airways and various agencies of the airport.
Dubai-bound passenger Md Babul, who was brought to the hearing and seemed confused, said he was not harassed at the airport and underwent health checkup.
Another Dubai-bound migrant worker raised an issue over the rude attitude of the officials at Bangladesh Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Mafidur said they would communicate with the embassy about the matter.
In the hearing, journalists raised a number of complaints, including services at the airport and rude behaviour of Ansar officials.
The CAAB chief said all airport staff must treat passengers well. Their behaviour needs to be changed.
"It is an international airport. The manners of every staffer working here must also be of international standard."
When asked, Mafidur said they are trying to integrate transport services so that inbound and outbound passengers would get transport facility without any kind of hassle.
