As many as 29 Indian sailors, stranded in Bangladesh due to travel restrictions amid the Covid-19 pandemic, have returned home on a special Novoair flight.
The flight departed from Dhaka at 2:30pm and reached Kolkata at 2:52pm.
Scheduled flights between India and Bangladesh have been suspended since March 15 owing to the ongoing pandemic.
India recently proposed resuming flights. On August 27, Riva Ganguly Das, the Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, conveyed the proposition to Bangladesh State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali at the secretariat.
Novoair is an airline based in Dhaka. It currently operates four daily flights each from Dhaka to Chittagong, Dhaka to Jessore, and Dhaka to Saidpur, three flights to Cox’s Bazar, and two each to Sylhet, Barisal, and Rajshahi, in compliance with health guidelines issued by the government.
