A new survey states than more than half the people in the country believe that the price of essentials go up whenever a national budget is announced.
The survey, conducted by Brac and the research firm Institute for Informatics and Development (IID), was released on Wednesday at Brac Centre in Dhaka, reports UNB.
The two NGOs interviewed 5,125 people across 64 districts to learn of their perspective about the impacts of budget announcement in their daily lives.
About 56.4% of the participants expressed that the budget announcement is followed by a price hike. And 41.6% believe that prices increase for some products, and fall for others.
On which sector to prioritise
More than half the participants, 51.5%, said that developing education sector should be the number one priority in the budget. It was followed by 31.7% voting for healthcare.
On social security allowance
28.8%, or 1,472 survey participants felt old-age allowance should be prioritised.
On disaster management and response
50% people are of the opinion that early warning systems and precautions should be prioritised in disaster management
