Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has banned the carrying of motorcycles on passenger launches during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
The ban will remain effective from July 29 till August 4 across the country, reports Bangla Tribune.
BIWTA Joint Director AKM Arif Uddin confirmed the matter.
Launches across the country are operating in compliance with all the health directives, including the proper use of masks and hand sanitizers, according to BIWTA sources.
BIWTA has completely prohibited passengers from entering launch terminals, and boarding launches without wearing face masks first. The authorities also banned the carrying of motorcycles on passenger launches for a week considering the Eid travels.
Based on the decision taken in a meeting between launch owners and BIWTA officials on May 31, the movement of launches was resumed on a limited scale across the country.
Since then, launch owners have been transporting passengers by sterilizing the launches and ensuring social distancing.
