DB: Shahed’s case to be handed over to RAB

Regent Hospital chairman Mohammad Shahed Karim’s case will be handed over to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for investigation. 

Detective Branch (DB) of Police Additional Commissioner Abdul Baten confirmed the matter to journalists at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Media Centre on Wednesday.

According to the approval given by the home ministry, RAB will take over Shahed’s case, he said.

Shahed is in DB custody for the last five days, he was placed on remand for 10 days for interrogation.

During the remand period, DB took Shahed to a office of his in Uttara, on information providedec by him and seized his SUV. A pistol, drugs and foreign liquor was also seized from inside the SUV, Abdul Baten added.

A charge will be submitted against Shahed for illegal possession of arms under the arms and special acts, the DB additional commissioner further said.

There is no clue of Shahed’s involvement in any drug trade, the DB official said while replying to a question for journalists.

Shahed carried legal arms, as it is quite difficult to commit a crime with a legal one.

DB will still investigate the arms and special act case, against Shahed after he will be handed over to RAB.

There are more than 20 cases are filed against Shahed and police will investigate all of them.
