The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has issued an order permitting customers to pay their electricity bills for the month of June without any late fees or charges till July 31.
The decision was taken on Thursday at a meeting chaired by Abdul Jalil, chairman of the commission, reports Bangla Tribune.
As Jalil put it: “The delay charges were waived considering the convenience of the customers. The decision was made in the afternoon. We have already issued the order. A press release will be issued very soon.”
The BERC chairman said: "We waived the late fees for March and April. After that, the ministry extended the time to June 30 to lessen the sufferings of the customers. It means the bill for May was also allowed to be paid without any charges.”
This time the waiver would be given for June electricity bills. Therefore customers would be able to pay their bills till July 31 without fines, he added.
