‘This is more shocking than my mother’s death’

In his reaction over the removal of the statue of Lady Justice from the apex court premises, its sculptor Mrinal Haque told the Dhaka Tribune that the shock was more than that of his mother’s death. He said: “After coming back from the US, I wished to do something for my own country. And, the Lady Justice was the outcome of my wish.” He also said the statue was not an idol of any Greek goddess. “Rather it [the statue] was a symbol of justice featuring a Bengali women,” he said, adding, a Greek goddess can never be clad in a saree as the sculpture is.
