A special flight carrying 391 Bangladeshis who were stranded in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) amidst travel restrictions imposed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
The flight, arranged by Biman Bangladesh Airlines from Dubai, landed at the Dhaka Airport at 4:36am, on Saturday.
Biman Deputy General Manager Tahera Khondoker confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Most of the Bangladeshis had been staying in the country without any jobs, even though they went there as workers.
Some of them may have lost their jobs due to the lockdown caused by the coronavirus pandemic. A few of them were there on tourist visas as well.
Some of the workers also said that they needed to return to their families due to emergencies caused by the coronavirus crisis.
Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new strain of novel coronavirus, has claimed 287 lives and infected 41,499 people in the UAE as of Saturday, according to Worldometer.
