Bangladesh has crossed its 1,000 mark in deaths from Covid-19 in just 84 days of recording the country’s first fatality from the deadly virus.
On Wednesday, the country recorded 37 new deaths – 33 males and four females – from coronavirus in a 24-hour span, taking the total number of fatalities to 1,012.
At the same time, 3,190 new Covid-19 cases were also registered, taking the total number of active cases in the country to 74,865.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Additional Director General (Administration) Prof Nasima Sultana revealed the latest figures from Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon, through a daily online bulletin on the Covid-19 situation.
In the daily briefing, the DGHS said a total of 563 people have recovered from coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours, marking a 21.24% recovery rate considering detection. The total number of patients who had recovered from the infection in the country now stands at 15,899.
Meanwhile, a total of 15,965 samples were tested in the last 24-hours, of which 19.98% were found positive.

Over the same period the authorities collected 16,994 samples for testing. Till Wednesday, a total of 441,560 tests have been conducted in the country.
She also said among the 37 new deceased, 25 were from Dhaka division, seven in Chittagong division, two in Barisal division and one each Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Mymensingh division.
DGHS Additional Director General (Administration) Prof Nasima Sultana said one of the deceased was aged between 11 and 20, three between 31 and 40, five between 41 and 50, ten between 51 and 60, ten between 61 and 70 and seven between 71 and 80 and one above the age of 81.
“Of the deceased, 25 died at hospitals and another 12 at home,” she added.
She further added that 538 people were sent to isolation and 188 left isolation in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people currently in isolation in the country to 12, 966 and the number of people relieved from isolation to 4,723.
A total of 3,09,183 people were taken to home and institutional quarantine since the beginning of the pandemic in the country. Of them, 2,51,472 were released while 57,711 remain in quarantine.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bangladesh recorded 45 deaths in a 24-hour span from the deadly Covid-19, and crossed 3,000 mark in fresh cases in a single day with a record 3,171 new Covid-19 patients.
On May 25, Bangladesh had marked 500 deaths since reporting the first fatality on March 18.
