Chinese Covid-19 medical team in Dhaka

A team of Chinese medical professionals, with expertise at handling Covid-19, has arrived in Dhaka.

The team has first-hand experience of containing the virus and treating its patients with remarkable success, using an array of medical equipment.

Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan, director of the airport, confirmed their arrival to the Dhaka Tribune on Monday.

A special flight, arranged by Hainan Airlines, carrying the ten Chinese medical experts, landed at Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka at 10:15am, said the airport director.

The team will stay in Bangladesh for two weeks to make propositions for containment and treatment of Covid-19.

Welcoming the Chinese medical team at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said that the doctors of Bangladesh will get enthusiasm from the delegation.

All the countries in the world will have to work together to face the Covid-19 pandemic, as it is a global issue and it cannot be managed by a single country, he said.

The Chinese medical team will meet with the Bangladeshi doctors and see for themselves the healthcare system of hospitals, he said.

If needed, the team will put forward recommendations with respect to coronavirus treatment, said Dr Momen, adding that by this, the Bangladeshi patients will get courage.

He also said that China has become successful in controlling the pandemic and other countries are following it in regard to the management of Covid-19 patients.

Speaking on the occasion, Chinese ambassador in Bangladesh Li Jiming said that in the next two weeks, the team members will pay field visits in different hospitals and medical facilities, conduct in-depth clinical discussions with Bangladesh health officials and professionals, share experiences, and provide guiding technical advice on Covid-19 treatment and control.

Referring to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's telephone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the evening of May 20, he said that the two leaders expressed appreciation for the mutual support between China and Bangladesh both before and during the COVID-19, reaffirmed our joint commitment to a coordinated global response to the pandemic, and pledged to further our cooperation in addressing the situation and areas beyond.

"This conversation is of high significance as it laid down the guidelines to advance our joint response in curbing the coronavirus as well as strengthening our strategic partnership of cooperation in a post-Covid-19 era," he added.

The envoy said that the Chinese embassy has been actively engaged with the government and health experts of Bangladesh in experience sharing and information exchange. 

In Bangladesh, 65,769 people have been infected by coronavirus and 888 people have died from it thus far.
