The Detective Branch of Police arrested a total of six people on Sunday in connection with the Libya murders in Dhaka.
Abdul Baten, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), confirmed the matter at a press briefing on Monday.
The alleged traffickers are Jahangir, Nazmul Hassan and Liakat Sheikh alias Lipu, Akbar Hossain, Badshah Mia and Sujon.
Four passports, two mobile phones and notebooks have been recovered from them.
The DB claims that alleged human traffickers Akbar Hossain, Badshah Mia and Sujon had trafficked most of the Bangladeshi migrants among the 26 killed by human traffickers.
The DB has been investigating two cases filed on June 4 and 5 at Paltan police station.
Akbar, from Madaripur district, allegedly trafficked seven migrants of his own district to Libya, through sending them to his brother Amir Hossain.
Besides, Badshah Mia, 40, has been trafficking people from Bangladesh to Libya. He has his own camps in Bengazi, Libya, and has been living there for over 13 years.
He had four Bangladeshi migrants, from Madaripur, held captive in his camp. They were later killed.
Of the arrested, Sujon has confessed to his crime during primary interrogation, said Abdul Baten.
Sujon said the three—Isar Uddin, Bijoy and Sojol—who were present during the killing, had been sent to Libya by him.
Of these migrants, Sojol has been receiving treatment at a hospital, but the other two are missing.
Including trafficking, the arrestee, Jahangir, 38, was involved in multiple activities: collecting and scanning passports of migrants , communicating with local brokers, managing tourist visas, fixing camps in Bengazi and so on.
The six arrestees were produced in court.
On May 28, 26 Bangladesh citizens were killed and 11 others were injured in a gun attack by some human traffickers in the desert town of Mizdah, some 180km from Tripoli, the capital of Libya.
Bangladesh reached out to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to bring the bodies back home and sought compensation for their families. However, the victims were buried in Mizdah.
The Bangladesh government also sought information on the human traffickers and demanded punishment of those involved in human trafficking and killing, following their arrest.
On May 30, Bangladesh released the names of 23 of those who were killed.
The 23 deceased are Sujan and Kamrul from Gopalganj; Jakir Hossain, Jewel, Firuz, Jewel-2, Manik, Asadul, Aynal Mollah, Monir, Sajib, Shaheen, and Shamim from Madaripur; Arfan from Dhaka; Lal Chand from Magura; Rajon, Rahim, Shakil, Sakib, Akash, Shohag and Muhammad Ali from Kishoreganj; and Rakibul from Jessore.
