Former home minister Sahara Khatun in hospital

Awami League presidium member and former Home Minister, Advocate Sahara Khatun, has fallen sick and was admitted to a hospital in the capital.

She has been suffering from fever, allergies, and some aging related health conditions, and has been undergoing treatment at United Hospital for the past week.

The Awami League has urged citizens of the country to pray for her swift recovery.

Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplob Barua confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.

He said: “At present, the physical condition of Sahara Khatun is a little better. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has also enquired about her health.

“She might have to stay in hospital for a few more days.”

Advocate Sahara Khatun has been an elected member of parliament for the Dhaka-18 seat for the last three terms.

In the 2008 Awami League-led government she served as the home minister and then as minister of Posts & Telecommunications.
