Two more policemen die of Covid-19

Two more policemen have died of Covid-19, taking the countrywide tally of police deaths from the virus to 11.

The deceased are constable Md Mokhlesur Rahman, who worked at Chittagong district police station, and Md Al Mamunur Rashid, who worked at the transport department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

Police headquarters’ Assistant Inspector General (AIG media) Md Sohel Rana confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Thursday.

He said that around 3,300 police members are infected with the coronavirus. Among them, 11 members of the police have sacrificed their life.  

Around 500 members had recovered from coronavirus. They all are joining their duty again to serve the country, he added.

Bangladesh Police Inspector General Benazir Ahmed has expressed profound sorrow at the passing of two more police members.

Mokhlesur hailed from Tamta village of Chandpur district.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, a son, and many relatives.

He was buried in his family cemetery in the presence of senior officers of the district police.

Mamunur’s village home is at Ramgati upazila in Laxmipur district. He has left behind his wife and two daughters.

He was also buried in the family graveyard at his village home in the presence of senior district police officials.
