Bhorer Kagoj crime reporter Aslam dies with Covid-19 symptoms

Daily Bhorer Kagoj Crime Reporter Aslam Rahman has died with covid-19 symptoms.

The doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) pronounced him dead when he was taken there around 10:45pm on Thursday, Shyamal Dutta, the editor of Bhorer Kagoj, said.

Aslam was suffering from high blood pressure as well as other health complexities, he said.

The editor of the daily said Aslam suffered a stroke around 8pm. “At first he was taken to Islamia Hospital, from where he was referred to DMCH.”

Kamruzzaman Khan, senior reporter of the daily, said Aslam’s coronavirus test report came out negative on Wednesday.

He was suffering from fever and had cough as well as chest pain since April 28. Later, Aslam gave blood sample for Covid-19 test at Khilgaon Girls School booth.

Aslam left behind his wife, a son and a daughter, a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death. 

Hailing from Madaripur, Aslam lived in Shantibagh area of Malibagh in Dhaka with his family.

The Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB) has expressed deep shock over his death and expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to forgive the soul of the deceased.

Aslam started his career in journalism with the daily Manabzamin in 2000. Later, he joined the daily Dinar Sheshe in 2006. From there, he joined the Vorer Kagoj as a staff reporter.

A senior member of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), Aslam was served as the sports secretary of the CRAB for a term. He was the publicity and publication secretary of Bangladesh Defense Journalists Association (DJAB).
