Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government has allocated Tk750 crore for the welfare of emergency workers fighting the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
“We have allocated Tk750 crore for emergency workers who are fighting the pandemic,” the premier said while addressing a videoconference with representatives and officials of the districts of Rangpur division, on Monday morning.
She also expressed her gratitude and thanked the health workers, members of local administrations, and law enforcement agencies who have continued their work amid the outbreak.
“We have already said that working professionals will get health support from the government if they get infected with Covid-19. If anyone, unfortunately, dies from the infection, then the government will take care of their families. Financial aid will be distributed to their families considering the number of members. Already, we have allocated Tk750 crore for this purpose,” he added.
The prime minister also urged media workers, including journalists, to maintain health safety practices at their workplaces.
The videoconference was aired live on state and private television channels from the prime minister's official residence Ganabhaban in Dhaka.
