Fire breaks out at Humayun Ahmed's Dhaka residence

A fire has broken out at the residence of late popular author Humayun Ahmed at Dhaka's Dhanmondi area.

The fire erupted on the second floor of the six-storey building named "Dakhin Hawa" around 8:30am on Sunday, said Lima Khanam, duty officer at the control room of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

However, the fire was put out before a firefighting unit reached the spot, she added.

Dhanmondi police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqul Islam said the late author's wife Meher Afroz Shaon lives at a flat housed on the fifth floor of the building.
