A legal notice has been served to the Health Services Division secretary over the supply of general masks inside N95 labeled boxes by JMI Hospitals Requisite Mfg Ltd.
Supreme Court Adv Yeadia Zaman served the legal notice on Monday.
A copy of the notice was also sent to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) for future reference.
The secretary was asked to reply to the notice within seven working days. Failure to do so will be subjected to a lawsuit against him at the High Court division of the Supreme Court.
The legal notice mentioned that JMI Ltd supplied fake N95 masks to doctors and health care professionals of Mugda General Hospital, Dhaka.
The notice said – JMI acknowledged their mistake and apologized for it. Knowing the truth, the authority remained silent and took no legal action against them, which is unfortunate and mysterious.
Lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury, also president of the management committee of the hospital, in a letter to the Central Medical Stores Depot (CMSD) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), brought the matter to attention.
CMSD, the government body which sources medical supplies, collected a total of 20,600 face masks from JMI Ltd, and later distributed them to hospitals.
On March 30, the masks were supplied to the hospital where, inside the labeled N95 packages, normal masks were given.
