Teenager arrested for harassing female coronavirus hotline operators

Police arrested a teenage boy for making inappropriate remarks to female operators on different hotline numbers run by IEDCR and others to trace coronavirus patients in the country.

The 13 year-old was arrested from Fulbaria in Kushtia around 8:30am Tuesday.

The Criminal Investigation Department’s (CID) Cyber Crime unit’s Additional Superintendent Khairul Alam confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

“After tracking down the boy’s location, Kushtia police conducted a drive to arrest him,” he said.

The boy, who is still in school, made over 100 phone calls to different hotline numbers as the calls to those numbers are free. He would start making indecent advances if any woman received the call.

The phone number was registered in his father’s name and he is also being questioned by the Kushtia district police, the CID official said.

A case has already been filed in this connection with Banani police station in Dhaka.

Khairul said the boy confessed to his crimes during primary interrogation.
