2 more die of dengue in Rajshahi, Sirajganj

Two women have died due to dengue in Rajshahi and Sirajganj districts.

In Rajshahi, a woman died from dengue at Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) while undergoing treatment.

The deceased is Raushan Ara, 55, a resident of Thakur Daulatput village in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia.

RMCH Deputy Director Dr Saiful Islam Ferdous said: "Raushan died at the intensive care unit (ICU) around 10:10am on Saturday.

"She was infected with dengue on September 8 and was shifted to RMCH from Kushtia General Hospital on September 10."

He continued: "As her condition deteriorated, Raushan was shifted to the ICU on September 12."

In Sirajganj, a woman died from dengue while travelling to Dhaka for better treatment.

The deceased is Nilufar Yasmin, 55, a resident of Notun Bhangabari area of Sirajganj municipality. 

Sirajganj Civil Surgeon Office Statistician Humayun Kabir said: “She was admitted to North Bengal Medical College (NBMC) on September 11.

“After that she was referred to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for better treatment. She died on the way to Dhaka around 8:30pm on Friday.”

She had died due to dengue shock syndrome, he added.

Dengue Menace

A total of 527 dengue patients have been admitted to different hospitals across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours.

Till Saturday, 156 patients were admitted in Dhaka and 371 in districts outside Dhaka.

Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier, the Aedes mosquito.

The Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room at the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in a press release issued on Saturday, said the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in government and private hospitals in the country was 2,996.

A total of 60 dengue patients have died across Bangladesh from January 1 till September 14, according to their own collected data. However, the unofficial death toll is reported to be over 155, so far.

As many as 1,285 patients are currently receiving treatment in 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka, whereas 1,711 people are undergoing treatment outside Dhaka, the DGHS data said.

Since January 1 till September 14, a total of 80,567 people have been affected by dengue.

Among those admitted, a total of 77,368 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
