Tripura has officially started transmitting 60MW electricity to Bangladesh from its Monarchak power project of North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited.
The transmission began on Wednesday midnight, although electricity transmission from Tripura in general had been going on since late last month.
Tripura has installed a double circuit international transmission line to supply power from Monarchak to Comilla.
Mahananda Debbarma, director of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited, said that Bangladesh had allowed transit of heavy equipment for the construction of the 726MW thermal power plant at Palatana.

“So we decided that we would supply them 100MW from Palatana,” he said. “Monarchak of Sonamura is generating 60MW surplus power and we are supplying that to Bangladesh as well.”
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had signed an agreement to supply 100MW power to Bangladesh, on March 23 last year.
During Hasina's India visit from April 7 to 10, the two neighbours signed a series of pacts for supply power to Bangladesh from India and Nepal.
On April 10, a supplementary agreement was signed between NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited and Bangladesh Power Development Board for supply of additional 60MW from Tripura.
