NSU acting pro-VC, 3 others remanded

A Dhaka court has placed North South University (NSU) acting pro-VC Dr Gias Uddin Ahsan and three others on remand for eight days in the case of terror attack at Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan, Dhaka on July 1. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tasruzzaman issued the order after hearing the petition for a 10-day remand placed by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crimes (CTTC) unit of police on Sunday.

The other three put on remand are Ahsan's nephew Alam Chowdhury and building manager Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin, and Md Nurul Islam, owner of another flat where some of the attackers lived for a while in the city's West Shewrapara area. CTTC Investigation Officer Md Humayun Kabir produced them before court, showing them arrested under Section 54. Earlier, the CTTC filed a general diary with the Detective Branch of police over the terror attack, and the quatret will be interrogated under that case. Police arrested them for renting out their flats to the attackers of Holey Artisan Bakery and their accomplices, said Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
