Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed on Thursday said the target was set considering the overall situation and he believed it was achievable.
Bangladesh earned over
$34 billion from exports in the last fiscal year, registering around 10% growth from the year before. The earnings exceeded the target by $743m.
The export growth target for the new fiscal is 8.06%, Tofail said at a media briefing in Dhaka.
He said the government hopes to earn $14.16 billion from knitwear products, $16.2 billion from woven products, $1.22 billion from leather and leather goods and another $541 million from frozen foods.
In the last fiscal year, Bangladesh earned $28.09 billion from exporting garment products against a target of $27.37 billion, according to data released by Export Promotion Bureau on Wednesday.
Knitwear contributed $13.35 billion and woven products $14.74 billion in the foreign exchange earnings.
