The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday issued a notice summoning five former managing directors (MD) and three former general managers (GM) of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL) for interrogation.
ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said the former MDs and GMs were asked to be present at the ACC office in Dhaka’s Segunbaghicha on Monday and Tuesday, reports UNB.
The former MDs are – Khursidul Hasan, Kamruzzaman, Md Aminuzzaman, Md Sirajul Islam Chowdhury and Md Mahbubur Rahman.
And the former GMs are – Mir Abdul Matin, Md Saiful Islam and Mizanur Rahman.
Barapukuria Coal-fired Thermal Power Plant has been shut down following mysterious disappearance of huge volume of coal.
The disappearance of the coal came to light on July 22, when a team from the Power Development Board visited the coal mine and found that there was no adequate reserve of coal.
As per the official investigation, the stock was found to have a shortage of 148,000 tons of coal.
A case was filed with Parbatipur Police Station on July 24 against 19 officials. The case was later transferred to the ACC for investigation.
