Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said unlike 2014, terrorism will not be tolerated in the slightest during this polls-time.
He made the statement on Saturday during a gathering held in celebration of Sabujbagh police station establishing the foundation stone for the construction of its new multi-storey building.
He said: “2018 is an important year for us. If anyone tries to create anarchy surrounding the election this year, we will handle it strictly.”
The DMP Commissioner said: “Due to the police’s vigilance, there is less pick-pocketing and extortion nowadays.”
Addressing police officials, he said: “If we find proof that someone is being framed, the people responsible will be punished gravely. If any policemen are found to be associated with drug dealers, we will take action against them, too.”
Regarding the CIMS, Asaduzzaman Mia said: “Members of DMP are saving records of the citizens in the database.
We have managed to collect and save the data of 80,0000 citizens from 19,0000 families without any help from government funding.
“This database has been especially helpful in detecting terrorists and militants. In order to create awareness among the citizens, we have held 1,50,000 meetings in the past two years with numerous families,” he said.
Citing the usefulness of the database, he said: “The militant lairs are mostly being found outside of Dhaka. Because the landlords in Dhaka are more aware of the risks now, we are able to detect any criminal activity in the shortest time.”
The celebratory gathering was presided over by Motijheel Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Anwar Hossain.
Lawmaker Saber Hossain Chowdhury was present as chief guest.
