Home minister: Security beefed up for foreign nationals, diplomats

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said the government has strengthened security measures for all foreign nationals, including diplomats stationed in Dhaka, tourists and workers in Bangladesh. "We have strengthened security measures and intelligence vigilance," he told the parliament while responding to a question from reserved seat MP Begum Lutfa Taher. Kamal said the improvement in law-and-order situation and ensuring peaceful and stable environment were the prerequisites to development. He mentioned that the government introduced Bangladesh Police’s helpline app to make sure that people get the desired services. "We have already formed Anti-Terrorism Unit to prevent terrorism and militants activities," The minister said. He added that the government agencies concerned were working to make the country free from illegal drugs. "We are talking about a social movement. We are working out a mechanism to fully control the (illegal) use of drug," Kamal said recalling Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's zero tolerance policy. Responding to another question, he said the law would take its own course if anybody took law in his or her own hand.
