Banani fire under control

A total of 17 firefighting units working on the site brought the fire under control around 3:50pm.

Fire service control room Duty Officer Ataur Rahman said fire service headquarters was not reported about the estimated damage.
The fire originated at the ground floor around 2:20pm.
However, while visiting the spot, Fire service Director Major Shakil Newaz said the fire originated on first floor.
He said: “Fire did not spread. It was limited to first floor. But, the residents of the building got panicked because of huge smokes.”
Major Shakil said the fire ensued from electric control panel of the building.
The fire service boss said none was injured in the incident. However, a reporter of poriborton.com, an online news portal located at the building, said at least two people were hospitalised.
At least 40 to 50 people trapped inside the building. Later, they were rescued.
The offices of Centre for Natural Resource Studies, a number of travel agencies and RMG companies are located in the building.
