At least 21 pilgrims have not returned to Bangladesh after performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia this year.
The kingdom has returned the passports of 131 hajis who died during the annual pilgrimage, but that still leaves 21 who remain unaccounted for.
Sources at the Ministry of Religious Affairs said the authorities in Saudi Arabia hand over the passports and death certificates to the Bangladesh Embassy when a haji dies. According to the sources, the passports of 131 hajjis were handed over this year.
In a statement on Wednesday, Hajj Camp Director Saiful Islam asked the relatives of the deceased to collect the passports and death certificates of the hajjis from the Ashkona camp.
The statement said the family members of the 131 deceased pilgrims will have to file an application and then collect the documents from Ashkona Hajj camp from 9am till 5pm.
However, they will have to produce the inheritance certificate from the local Union Parishad chairman.
The list of deceased hajjis can be found on the
website of the ministry.
