Bangladeshi-born teen looks to win Zuckerberg-sponsored science competition

Ayesha Ahmed, a 17-year-old student from UAE, is among the 29 representatives from around the world who are gunning for the Breakthrough Junior Challenge. The global science competition, co-founded by Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan, sees tens of thousands of teens from over 170 countries compete for a $250,000 scholarship, according to the Khaleej Times. Ayesha's topic is the String Theory, which she takes to explain in a video she made and uploaded to the Breakthrough Facebook page. Now, she will compete with 28 others for popular vote. The candidates with the most social media responses will go on to the final round. Ayesha was born to Bangladeshi parents Muneer Ahmed Shahabuddin and Sonia Ahmed Shampa. The family resides in Abu Dhabi.
