RMCH intern doctors go on indefinite strike

Intern doctors of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) have gone on an indefinite strike on Monday night protesting attack on an intern doctor by relatives of a patient. Sources at the hospital said an altercation ensued between relatives of a female patient Eti of ward no 22 and an intern doctor Abu Nayeem Porag when he asked them to leave the ward in the evening. At one stage of altercation, the relatives reportedly assaulted the doctor, leaving him seriously injured. Later, Porag was admitted to the doctors’ ward of RMCH. On information, the intern doctors got angry and met the director of the hospital, demanding punishment of the attackers. They later went on a strike from the night protesting the incident. Following the incident, the hospital administration filed a case with Rajpara police station accusing Shahin and Jimi, the relatives of the patient. Hospital administration held a meeting around 10am on Tuesday with the protesting doctors but it ended without any solution. Another meeting is about to be held later in the day. Meanwhile, police have arrested Jimi, 28, in this connection, said Aman Ullah, officer-in-charge of Rajpara police station.
