A consignment of medical equipment from the Japanese Red Cross Society, earmarked for the set up of a new medical centre for Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, arrived in Bangladesh on Monday.
An Ethihad Airways cargo flight landed at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong with the 19 tons of medical equipment at 4pm.
Chittagong Additional Deputy Commissioner Habibur Rahman formally received the medical equipment on behalf of Bangladesh at the airport.

Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Habibur Rahman confirmed that the equipment was brought in specifically to set up a medical centre in Cox’s Bazar for Rohingya refugees.
“The equipment includes everything that is necessary for a medical centre, from needles to generators. It will all be handed over to Cox’s Bazar district administration,” he added.
The handover ceremony was attended by Takafumi Yamada and Kensuke Kawai from the Japanese Red Cross Society, Nippon Express BD Ltd Vice president Kazuhiro Jobayakawa and Red Crescent Chittagong unit Secretary Abdul Jabbar.
