Different political, social and cultural organisations have chalked out various programmes marking the day, reports BSS.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued a message urging all to work together in order to strengthen the foundation of democracy calling people as "sentinel of democracy".
General Ershad ousted Justice Sattar and assumed power in 1982 and continued his autocratic rule till 1990.
In 1990, he was forced to step down following a pro democracy mass-upheaval led by the Awami League.
