JU declares two days weekly holidays

According to a notice, signed by JU Registrar Abu Bakar Siddique, Friday and Saturday will be the weekly holidays. The decision was taken on October 21 in a syndicate meeting of the university, as the teachers of the university had been demanding two-day weekend for long. From the next month, the working hours of JU will be from 8:30am to 4:00pm. Besides, there will be a half an hour break for prayer and lunch from 1:00pm. The transport schedule for commuting from Dhaka to the campus in accordance to the new timing would be informed later, Abu Bakar said. Prof Bashir Ahmed, general secretary of the teachers’ association, said there was a lack of coordination between the teachers and staff of the university, as the university was closing at 2:00pm. It affected the academic activities and research work. “Now, the new timing will speed up the activities,” said Prof Bashir.
