Child victim of Ashulia gas lighter factory fire dies

Akhi, 14, daughter of Ashraful Alam, from Rangpur, died of her injuries at the burn unit of the DMCH around 2:45am on Wednesday, confirmed Partho Sangkar Paul, resident surgeon of the burn unit. Physicians at the DMCH said she was admitted there with 70% burns. On Tuesday afternoon, a devastating fire erupted at Colour Match BD Ltd, a gas lighter factory. A total of 26 workers sustained severe burn injuries. Around 20 workers were admitted to the DMCH, most of them between the ages of 14-16, while the rest of the injured were taken to Enam Medical College Hospital, Savar. Seven are reported to have been critically burnt. The district administration has announced assistance of Tk20,000 to the family members of the dead each and Tk10,000 for the injured in the fire.
