Legendary writer and filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta has passed away at the age of 77, Indian media reported on Thursday.
The Indian poet and contemporary filmmaker breathed his last at his house in Kolkata after battling a prolonged kidney ailment.

Dasgupta was well known for films like Uttara, Bagh Bahadur, Kaalpurush, among many others.
He won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali for Dooratwa (1978) and Tahader Katha(1993). Under the Best Direction category, his films Uttara (2000) and Swapner Din (2005) won National awards.
Also a famous poet, his published works of poetry include Suitcase, Himjog, Govir Araley, Coffin Kimba, Chhaata Kahini, Roboter Gaan, Sreshtha Kabita, and Bhomboler Ascharya Kahini O Ananya Kabita, reports the Indian Express.
