They submitted a memorandum to NRC’s State Coordinator on Tuesday
The Assam unit of BJP has submitted a memorandum to NRC State Coordinator Prateek Hajela, urging him to accept more documents as proof for inclusion in India’s National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The BJP also advised the official to ensure adherence to India’s Citizenship Amendment Act, 1986 regarding inclusion into the finalized citizenry document.
The memorandum, submitted on Tuesday, also said despite dating back before 1971, some documents were not considered valid by the NRC authority.
The party told Hajela that although India’s Supreme Court allowed certain documents to be accepted for inclusion in the NRC, some other documents ought to have been considered. They listed 13 such documents.
According to the memorandum, the list of documents includes:migration certificates; citizenship certificates; all variations of refugee cards, camp inmate cards, and refugee eligibility certificates; grazing permits till 1971; khuti permits till 1971; tauji revenue receipts till 1971; cattle tax revenue receipts till 1971; revenue collection receipts issued by Devalaya and other religious institutions till 1971; certificates issued by schools till 1971; armed forces recruitment certificates; and revenue payment receipts issued by the forest department or other authorities.
