Election campaigning in Pakistan came to a close Monday night with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) rounding off by predicting their own victory in the July 25 national polls

Update : 24 Jul 2018, 02:32 PM

On the last day of election campaigning, PTI chief Imran Khan was in Lahore addressing meetings, PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif ended his party’s campaign by holding a public meeting in Dera Ghazi Khan, with Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari addressing the public in Shahdatkot, Garhi Khairi, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Garhi Yasin before visiting the graves of former premiers Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

The nation polls will take place on July 25, from 8am to 6pm.

Political leaders continued with their campaigns despite multiple terror attacks targeting election candidates and activities, and a threat warning issued by the National Counter Terrorism Authority to 65 political leaders, reports Dawn.

Rain in various parts of Lahore forced many venues for rallies to be changed, and others to be cancelled. Imran Khan’s rallies in various constituencies represented the last PTI attempt to show that it was capable of toppling the PML-N.

The participants in the PTI rallies matched the enthusiastic PML-N followers who attended Hamza Shahbaz’s public meeting, as well as the rallies taken out by other PML-N candidates all over Punjab.

Addressing the people in Dera Ghazi Khan, PML-N chief Shahbaz Sharif spoke about the achievements of the PML-N government, urging people to vote for his party to “free Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz from jail.”

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidates in some areas also strived for last-minute appeals to the people to vote, as did nominees of other parties including those belonging to Labaik Tehreek Pakistan of Khadim Hussain Rizvi and Allah-o-Akbar Tehreek of Hafiz Saeed.

PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari ended his campaign in Larkana Monday night by offering fateha at the Bhutto mausoleum after visiting Shahadkot, Garhi Khairi, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Garhi Yasin.

He reiterated his party’s commitment to democracy and said that his party believed in freedom and democratic principles.
