The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Tripura Police has arrested Tripura State Rifles Second Battalion Commandant Tapan Debbarma and his security guard Nandugopal Reang in connection with the murder of journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik.
The two were arrested on Tuesday night. The Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court of West Tripura granted a 10 day remand for the duo after the CID produced them before the court on Wednesday. The court also ordered the CID to produce the accused before it again on December 1.
Sudip was shot to death on Tuesday reportedly by Nandu Reang, a member of the TSR in Agartala, after a brawl ensued between them over the former having gone to meet the commandant.

The media fraternity of Tripura waged a protest against the murder in front of the chief minister’s official residence, by taking off their press jackets and burning them.
Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy strongly condemned the murder of the journalist and assured that action would be taken in this regard.
The BJP and Congress will observe a 24-hour bandh across the state on Thursday in protest of the murder.
The last rites of Sudip Dutta Bhowmik were performed on Wednesday evening.
Earlier, on 20 September, another journalist, Santanu Bhowmik, was slashed to death by a group of miscreants when he had gone to cover an incident in Mandai of Jirania sub-division in the state.
